Gryphon Track & Field Camp | Ages 9-14

Gryphon Camps offer a variety of camps that are categorized into Activity Camps or Sport Camps. Track & Field sits within Sport Camps umbrella.

If your desired Camp week is full, please join the waitlist and we will contact you if and when an opening is available. 

New Minimum/Maximum Age Requirements

Each camp has a minimum and maximum age requirement to ensure campers are grouped with others within the same age range.  If you have questions or concerns about age requirements, please contact the Gryphon Camps Office at camps@uoguelph.ca or 519-824-4120 Ext. 56131.

  • Minimum Age: Campers must be no younger than the minimum age or be turning that age by the upcoming September 1st. 
  • Maximum Age: Campers must be no older than the maximum age by the end of the calendar year (December 31st).  

Our Track & Field Camp will have groups with 2 staff and 18 campers (a ratio of 1:9)

 

Strong Foundation

Coaches will build a strong foundation for all Track & Field Sports through the national program of 'Run Jump Throw' developed by Athletics Canada.

Jump

Campers will work through daily sessions providing an exciting mix of technical practice, games and special events; moving from general to more specific. 

Throw

The national program of Run Jump Throw developed by Athletics Canada is utilized by our coaches facilitating the programs as it serves a strong foundation for all Track & Field Sports.

Running Activities

Running activities may include: Hurdles, Long Distance, Relays, Short Distance

 

Jumping Activities

Long Jump, High Jump, Triple Jump

Throwing Activities

Throwing Activities may include: Discus, Javlin (foam javlin), and Ball Toss

Fun Competition

Learn all aspects of Track & Field in preparation for final day competition activities.

Track & Field Camp | All Genders, Ages 9-14

Gryphon Track & Field Camp will develop skills that will become a foundation throughout a young athlete's life. Campers will work through daily sessions providing an exciting mix of technical practice, games and special events; moving from general to more specific. During the week campers will learn about all aspects of Track & Field, through the guidance of varsity athletes and coaches, and practice these skills in preparation for the final day competitive activities. The national program of Run Jump Throw developed by Athletics Canada to teach fundamental movement skills and develop physical literacy, is utilized by our coaches facilitating the programs as it serves a strong foundation for all Track & Field Sports.

Our campers will be ready for a well-deserved sleep each night to recharge their batteries for the next day.

Track & Field Camp will have recreational swimming for campers twice during the week.

Track & Field Camp specifically aims for:

  • During the week, campers will learn about all aspects of the sport of track & field through the guidance of varsity athletes and coaches
  • Campers will practice these skills in preparation for a final day of competitive activities
  • Coaches will utilize key components of the "Run Jump Throw" program developed by Athletics Canada designed to teach fundamental movement skills & develop physical literac

Gryphon Track & Field full day camp will develop skills that will become a foundation throughout a young athlete’s life. Campers will work through daily sessions providing an exciting mix of technical practice, games and special events. During the week, campers will learn about all aspects of Track & Field, through the guidance of varsity athletes and coaches, and practice these skills in preparation for the final day competitive activities. Campers will have the opportunity for recreational swimming twice during the camp week.

Gryphon Track & Field full day camp will develop skills that will become a foundation throughout a young athlete’s life. Campers will work through daily sessions providing an exciting mix of technical practice, games and special events. During the week, campers will learn about all aspects of Track & Field, through the guidance of varsity athletes and coaches, and practice these skills in preparation for the final day competitive activities. Campers will have the opportunity for recreational swimming twice during the camp week. Note: This is a four day camp as there is no camp on Monday Aug.5th (Civic Holiday)

Meet The Coach

 

Paul Galas Assistant Coach, Jumps & Combined Events, University of Guelph Track & Field 

  • 3rd season coaching for the University of Guelph's Track and Field program
  • Under his guidance, he has directly overseen a U Sport runner-up heptathlete, 2 OUA champions and 3 OUA medalists. 
  • Former NCAA (Indiana University) Big Ten Conference medalist individually and a Big Ten Conference Champion as a member of the Hoosiers.
  • Named to two national teams as a high jumper. 
  • Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (NSCA-CSCS)
  • American Council on Exercise Certified Personal Trainer/Sport Performance Specialist (ACE-PT)
  • Ontario Certified Health and Physical Education Teacher (OCT)
  • NCCP Level 2 Coach in the Jumps
  • Manages the Royal City Athletics Cub
