Gryphon Track & Field Camp | Ages 9-13

This full day Camp is designed for all genders Ages 9-13 to build skills through a mix of technical practice, games and special events.

Coaches will build a strong foundation for all Track & Field Sports through the national program of 'Run Jump Throw' developed by Athletics Canada.

Jump

Campers will work through daily sessions providing an exciting mix of technical practice, games and special events; moving from general to more specific. 

Throw

The national program of Run Jump Throw developed by Athletics Canada is utilized by our coaches facilitating the programs as it serves a strong foundation for all Track & Field Sports.

Running Activities

Running activities may include: Hurdles, Long Distance, Relays, Short Distance

 

Jumping Activities

Long Jump, High Jump, Triple Jump

Throwing Activities

Throwing Activities may include: Discus, Javlin (foam javlin), and Ball Toss

Fun Competition

Learn all aspects of Track & Field in preparation for final day competition activities.

Guelph Gryphons Track & Field Camp (Full Day) - All Genders Ages 9-13

Gryphon Track & Field Camp will develop skills that will become a foundation throughout a young athlete's life.  Campers will work through daily sessions providing an exciting mix of technical practice, games and special events; moving from general to more specific.

  • During the week, campers will learn about all aspects of the sport of track & field through the guidance of varsity athletes and coaches
  • Campers will practice these skills in preparation for a final day of competitive activities
  • Coaches will utilize key components of the "Run Jump Throw" program developed by Athletics Canada designed to teach fundamental movement skills & develop physical literacy
  • Our campers will be ready for a well-deserved sleep each night to recharge their batteries for the next day

Meet The Coaches


Jason Kerr Head Coach, University of Guelph Track & Field Team 

  • 9th season coaching at the University of Guelph
  • Has helped transform the Guelph Gryphons into a perennial track and field powerhouse having won an incredible 11 OUA provincial team championships, and 8 U SPORTS national team championships during Kerr’s tenure as coach. 
  • 2X OUA and U SPORTS Coach of the Year in both Men’s and Women’s Track & Field. 
  • 2022 OUA Men's Coach of the Year
  • Leading the sprints & hurdles event group, Kerr has coached national collegiate champions in every sprint and hurdle event, including collegiate and national records in the women’s 60mH, 4x200m, 4x400m, as well as the men’s 4x400m. In the most recent 2020 national U SPORTS championship, Gryphon sprinters made history winning gold medals in every men’s and women’s sprint and relay event, the first time a team has done this in Canadian history.
  • Coached at the Canadian national outdoor champions for 100m, 200m, 100mH, 400m and 400mH, as well as three 4x100m relay teams that hold national records at the U18 and U23 levels.
  • Internationally, Kerr has coached athletes to medal performances at World Junior, World Youth, NACAC, Pan Am, Pan Am Junior, and Para Pan Am Championship events.
  • Has also been selected for numerous National coaching roles, including the 2015 and 2017 FISU World University Games, the 2016 Paralympics, and the 2019 NACAC U23 Championships.   
  • Prior to his career in coaching, Kerr completed a Masters Degree in Kinesiology at Western University in London, Ontario, where he was a successful Collegiate and National level sprinter.

Paul Galas Assistant Coach, Jumps & Combined Events, University of Guelph Track & Field Team

  • 3rd season coaching for the University of Guelph's Track and Field program
  • Under his guidance, he has directly overseen a U Sport runner-up heptathlete, 2 OUA champions and 3 OUA medalists. 
  • Former NCAA (Indiana University) Big Ten Conference medalist individually and a Big Ten Conference Champion as a member of the Hoosiers.
  • Named to two national teams as a high jumper. 
  • Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (NSCA-CSCS)
  • American Council on Exercise Certified Personal Trainer/Sport Performance Specialist (ACE-PT)
  • Ontario Certified Health and Physical Education Teacher (OCT)
  • NCCP Level 2 Coach in the Jumps
  • Manages the Royal City Athletics Cub
