Kids Sports

Kids Skill Development programs are designed to help kids & youth increase their knowledge about a specific activity while building on skills in a small group setting that may include Rock Climbing, Learn to Skate, Dance & Wrestling.  For some sports, Varsity Coaches will be in attendance to help guide and facilitate programming.

Fall Kids & Camps Registration will open Aug 19, 2024 @ 6:30am.  Program details will be viewable mid summer.

Below Activities require registration & fees apply.  Recreation Membership is not a pre-requisite to enroll in Kids Programming.

Discover Rock Climbing | Ages 8 -13 | Sundays

Rock Climbing offers a unique environment for children to explore and become more aware of how their bodies move on the rock wall as they progress through bouldering, harnessing, belaying, and then conquering top rope climbing. They will be inspired to set goals and develop teamwork skills as they learn proper safety & rock-climbing techniques. Participants will be grouped according to their climbing exposure and the program will culminate with a ‘friendly’ finale challenge to put new skills to the test. All equipment is provided. *Registration ends 2 days prior to the start date.

Jays Care - Girls At Bat Mentorship Program | Ages 8-16

This program is designed for returning players Ages 8-16 that have previously participated in the Jays Care - Girls at Bat program that would like to continue building leadership skills while playing baseball. Programming will be similar to previous years with additional skill building on being a leader/mentor to others. We can't wait to continue on this journey with you. NOTE: The program on Mon July 1/24 & Mon August 5/24 will move to Tue July 2/24 & Tue August 6/24 for a joint programming session with other Girls at Bat participants. *Registration ends 1 week prior to the start date.

Jays Care - Girls At Bat | Ages 7-13 | June-July

We’re partnering with the Jays Care Foundation in this 8-week program to engage female-identifying girls ages 7-13, which are often those that find themselves sitting on the sidelines. The Jays Care Foundation promotes the theory of change. This is as follows: from baseball, to access, to belonging & connection, to variations. Participants will develop skills in all of these ingredients as they are inspired by sport in a positive peer network that will help build confidence and create a stronger connection to community. This program is ideal for those new to baseball. No specialized equipment required. Comfortable clothing and running shoes are recommended. *Registration ends 1 week prior to the start date.

Junior Wrestling | Ages 8-16

Beginner or advanced, all welcome! Whether your child is new to the sport or a seasoned veteran, this program is designed to develop your child’s wrestling techniques & improve their specific skill sets. Athletes will build body awareness & fitness levels as certified coaches share their knowledge gained from past provincial, national & world championship experiences. Members of the varsity wrestling team will also volunteer their time to help inspire & build community leaders. This program also includes a membership to the Ontario Amateur Wrestling Association for insurance coverage, a clothing package and use of the university wrestling room for the times assigned. This program runs from October to April, please refer to your confirmation for dates that classes will not run. Times of the program are subject to change at coaches' discretion. Learn to Skate | Ages 5-11 | Mondays

This program is specifically designed for participants that have taken skating lessons in the past or have had some previous exposure to skating. Children will be grouped based on their skating level, therefore attendance at the first lesson is very important. Through fun games and activities, qualified instructors will facilitate instruction in order to build your child’s confidence and skating skills. We recommend that participants practice between classes. Safety pads are recommended, and CSA approved hockey helmets are mandatory. *Registration ends 2 days prior to the start date. 7 classes.

Youth Conditioning Program | Ages 10-13

Modeled after our Youth Fitness Camp, this program provides youth the ability to engage in a variety of conditioning classes (such as yoga, TRX, cardio kickboxing, Pilates, group cycle, strength training & mobility) in order to enhance performance and improve their level of conditioning in a dynamic environment full of energy and movement. *No registration after course start date.

Learn To Skate

Facilitated by members of our Varsity Figure Skating team, participants will be divided into small groups depending on skating ability in order to build confidence on the ice all through fun activities.  Learn to Skate is offered in Fall & Winter.

Rock Climbing

Rock Climbing offers kids & youth the opportunity to explore the rock wall & build skills in a relaxed, fun environment.  All equipment is provided.  Programming is generally offered in Fall & Winter, but may be offered in Summer.  

Girls at Bat

This past summer, Gryphon Kids & Camps partnered with the Jays Care Foundation to offer the Girls at Bat Program.  The 8-week program was designed to engage female-identifying girls new to baseball who most often sit on the sidelines.  We hope to have the privilege of offering this program again in the future.  For more information about the Jays Care Foundation click here.
