Field/Outdoor Sports

Limited Recreation is now available to current UofG Students & Athletics Members   

Non-Members must purchase an Athletics Base Membership prior to purchasing the NRG Pass.  Not a member yet? Purchase your Base Membership now.    Faculty/Staff/Retirees can purchase the Subsidized Base Membership here.  You are an Athletics Member if you are currently registered as a full or part-time undergraduate or a full-time graduate student of the University of Guelph (Athletics Base Membership paid within your academic fees) or if you have purchased an Athletics Base Membership.

Outdoor Fitness Area Drop-in Rec – NEW! Our main baseball diamond is now open for students only as a drop-in fitness space. We will have mats, kettlebells, bars, plates and benches available for you to get a workout in.  Drop-in access to the Outdoor Fitness Area is available Mon - Thu, 9-10am!  Bookings will open up 7 days in advance & must be reserved in advance.   After reviewing below Policies & Protocols, please proceed to reserve your time slot @ gryphons.ca/reservations.  
Outdoor Drop-in Rec on the North Soccer Field is available for students only.   Please continue to check gryphons.ca/reservations for an up-to-date schedule and availability.  As restrictions lift, additional times & opportunities will be added.  Students will be required to bring their own equipment as nothing will be available to rent. Participation will be limited to ensure physical distancing requirements. Currently no games or scrimmages are permitted,  but in July we hope to add scrimmage & game opportunities for students to play outdoor sports.  Bookings will open up 7 days in advance & must be reserved in advance.   After reviewing below Policies & Protocols, please proceed to reserve your time slot @ gryphons.ca/reservations.  
Outdoor Fitness classes will continue! These classes are now available to everyone.  UofG Students registered in academic classes for the Summer semester are FREE, Non-students must purchase the Outdoor Fitness Class Pass - $10+HST for the month of July.  Please visit NRG Calendar page for details.

Enforced Booking Policies

  • All time slots must be reserved in advance for the purpose of contact tracing.
  • Bookings can only be made for yourself – booking for others is NOT Permitted.
  • Max one (1) time slot per day, per space.  No back to back bookings permitted in the same space.
  • Bookings available to reserve 7 days in advance, on the hour (means you don’t have to wake up at midnight to make your booking).
  • Time slots will be available to reserve up until 1 hour before the desired start time.
  • All members must have a booking to access our building and/or any of our spaces. 
  • Clients should cancel reservations on their own and can do so without penalty up to 1 hour before the booked time.
  • Reservations can be managed through the app, your email confirmation or by calling Client Services (519 824 4120 Ext. 56253).
  • Non-members will be denied access to reserved time slots.
  • All Clients must check in when they arrive prior to any booking.
  • Clients who register for a time and continuously do not show will have their memberships temporarily suspended.

 

Outdoor Drop-in Rec Protocols

  • Everyone is required to complete the U of G COVID-19 Screening Form prior to every visit using the QR code or by visiting > uoguel.ph/COVID19screening or access to the facility will be denied
  • You will be asked to show the "Green Check Mark" from your UofG confirmation email when you arrive.
  • If you experience any symptoms on the screening form or do not feel well, please stay home 
  • All participants must exit the area as soon as the scheduled time is over in order to allow for 10 minutes of cleaning after each workout block
  • Everyone must check-in upon arrival with the Rec Attendant (North Soccer Field) or with the Outdoor Fitness Area Staff (Main Baseball Diamond)
  • Participants will be expected to self-monitor that they are following provincial guidelines by maintaining 3m apart from other participants
  • Currently no games or scrimmages are permitted,  but in July we hope to add scrimmage & game opportunities for students to play outdoor sports
  • Late entries will only be permitted up until 10 minutes into each workout block
  • Everyone must obey 3 metres of physical distancing guidelines when outdoors
  • Face coverings must be worn while entering & exiting the Outdoor Fitness Area, as well as when leaving your designated workout area
  • Masks are kept on except when engaged in physical activity & individuals may choose to wear face coverings while working out
  • Everyone is expected to wipe all equipment after each use

The Outdoor Fitness Area including Outdoor NRG Classes, Drop-in, & Group Training Sessions may be cancelled, postponed or rescheduled due to weather or facility emergencies or unforeseen conflicts. During inclement weather, only the fitness staff member present on site can cancel outdoor fitness programming. Do not assume your time or class will be cancelled, as the weather is very unpredictable. Registered Group Training Sessions that are cancelled will be made up on Friday at a time that may not be consistent with the original program.
LIGHTNING POLICY: If thunder is heard within 30 seconds of seeing lightning, programming will be cancelled.
RAIN POLICY: If light drizzle, will not cancel the program. However, significant rainfall would see the program be cancelled.

Soccer COVID-19 Protocols 

  • Everyone is required to complete the U of G COVID-19 Screening Form prior to every visit using the QR code or by visiting > uoguel.ph/COVID19screening or access to the facility will be denied 
  • If you experience any symptoms on the screening form or do not feel well, please stay home 
  • Must have an individual booking to play 
  • Bookings are for 1 hour, please do not arrive early and leave immediately after your booking 
  • Two players per net at a time 
  • No games allowed to be played.  Time is strictly for skill-building (shooting, dribbling, and passing only) 
  • Players are reminded to be physically distanced when possible 
  • Masks must be worn when not actively participating in activity 
  • Clients may only pre-book one slot per activity per day.  If space permits, clients can book a spot at the time the booking starts 
  • While change rooms are closed, Field House Attendants will provide you with a bin to hold personal belongings 
  • Everyone must obey physical distancing guidelines while in the facility 
  • Face coverings must be worn while in the facility 
  • Face coverings may only be removed during physical activity, but must be worn by players on the bench
  • Soccer balls available for lending at the Field House information desk 
  • Lost or broken balls are charged at replacement cost (approximately $35) 

 
Walking Track COVID-19 Protocols 

The walking track is a facility which offers a full indoor track at the University of Guelph Field House. This allows members to take advantage of bad weather conditions. 

  • Everyone is required to complete the U of G COVID-19 Screening Form prior to every visit using the QR code or by visiting > uoguel.ph/COVID19screening or access to the facility will be denied 
  • If you experience any symptoms on the screening form or do not feel well, please stay home 
  • While change rooms are closed, Field House Attendants will provide you with a bin to hold personal belongings 
  • Everyone must obey physical distancing guidelines while in the facility 
  • Face coverings must be worn while in the facility 
  • Face coverings may only be removed during physical activity, but must be worn by players on the bench 

Ultimate Frisbee – currently NOT available 

Ultimate is a great sport for recreational play.  
Frisbees available for lending at the Field House information desk. 

Beach Volleyball – currently NOT available 

Nets, lines, and volleyballs are available for use.  
Lost or broken equipment is changed at replacement cost (approx. $30 ball, $150 net, $50 lines). 

Baseball – currently NOT available 

Bats are available for sign out at Client Services. Lost or broken bats are changed at replacement cost. 

Facility Guidelines

Athletics is committed to providing a safe, inviting recreation experience for the University of Guelph community. Please assist us by adhering to the following guidelines.

  1. Individuals must be 12 years or older to participate in NRG Classes and 16 years or older to use the Fitness Centre.
  2. Persons 15 years of age and under participating in Recreation activities must be accompanied by a paying parent or guardian at all times.
  3. Athletic clothing appropriate to the activity must be worn.
  4. Clean athletic footwear with non-marking soles must be worn on all surfaces.
  5. Programming space is to be shared appropriately with all participants.
  6. Food or glass bottles are not permitted in the gymnasiums or program rooms.
  7. Inappropriate behavior such as swearing, physical or verbal abuse will not be tolerated and may result in loss of building access privileges and/or immediate removal from facility.
  8. All programming ends 30 minutes prior to the building closing. All equipment must be returned at this time.
  9. Change rooms will be inspected by a Client Services Representative upon building closure.
  10. Failure to follow these guidelines may result in removal from facility and/or loss of access privileges.
