Gryphon Basketball Camp | Recreational Ages 7-9 | Instructional Ages 10-13

This updated Basketball Camp program will separate campers of all genders between two streams; Recreational Stream for ages 7-9 and Instructional Stream for ages 10-13.  Both are designed to teach a wide variety of basketball skills and techniques.  No previous experience required.

Small Groups

Players will be divided into small groups for a more personalized approach to skill development to allow quality time with high level coaches.

High Level Coaching

Coaching will be facilitated by our Men's & Women's Varsity Basketball Team & Head Coaches.

Basketball 2 Streams | Recreational - Ages 7-9 | Instructional - Ages 10-13

The Gryphon Basketball coaching staff & athletes will facilitate this Basketball Camp designed to assist participants of all genders who have a love of the game.  Through demonstration, a wide variety of basketball skills and techniques will be taught.  This updated camp design will separate campers into two streams allowing skill sessions to be successful and promote optimal individual growth.  No previous experience is required. 

 

Both streams aim to:

  • Build on the basics 
  • Promote a fun, inclusive love of the game
  • Develop knowledge and understanding of tactical aspects of basketball
  • Include opportunities for leadership

Basketball Camp - Recreational Stream | All Genders, Ages 7-9

  • Geared towards players who are looking for an action-packed, fun, game-based experience
  • Fundamental skill development
  • Overall game tactics 
  • Participants will be divided into groups by age and ability

Basketball Camp - Instructional Stream | All Genders, Ages 10-13

  • Build on the basics
  • In-depth technical & tactical development for players who have some experience with the game
  • Introduction to mental performance growth & goal setting
  • Participants will be divided into groups by age and ability

Meet the Coaches


Chris O'Rourke Head Coach, University of Guelph Men's Basketball 

  • The 2021-22 season marked Chris O'Rourke's 25th season in charge of the men's basketball program at the University of Guelph
  • As the longest-tenured head coach in USPORTS men's basketball, Chris O'Rourke has served as the driving force behind some of the greatest moments in Gryphons basketball history
  • In 2003, he coached the Gryphons to the OUA West divisional title and would lead them to a silver medal at both the conference and national championships
  • During the 2005-06 season, O'Rourke became just the third Gryphon coach ever to be named OUA West Coach of the year
  • During his tenure as head coach of the Gryphons, Chris O'Rourke has had 21 players named OUA all-stars, two OUA Rookie of the Year recipients, one OUA MVP and two players named All-Canadians
  • Outside of his Gryphon coaching career, O'Rourke also has extensive experience working with the Ontario Basketball Association as well as Canada Basketball

Megan Reid Head Coach, University of Guelph Women's Basketball 

  • Megan Reid was named interim head coach of the Gryphons women's basketball program in May of 2022.
  • Reid has played a key role with the Gryphons women's basketball program since coming on board for the 2017-18 season.
  • Megan arrived at U of G with a decorated coaching career at both the collegiate level (as the lead assistant of the Mohawk College women's basketball program for eight seasons) as well as at the high school level (as a lead assistant coach of the senior boys basketball team at John F. Ross Collegiate Vocational Institute in Guelph, as well as the head coach of the junior girls team at John F. Ross).  On four separate occasions, Megan helped guide John F. Ross basketball teams to AAAA OFSAA appearances.
