Gryphon Basketball Camp | Recreational Ages 7-9 | Instructional Ages 10-13

This updated Basketball Camp program will separate campers of all genders between two streams; Recreational Stream for ages 7-9 and Instructional Stream for ages 10-13.  Both are designed to teach a wide variety of basketball skills and techniques.  No previous experience required.  

Summer 2023 Camp Registration will open Mon Feb 13/23 @ 6:30am.   Summer 2023 details will be viewable below shortly.   

Once registration is open, if your desired Camp week is full, please join the waitlist and we will contact you if and when an opening is available.

Small Groups

Players will be divided into small groups for a more personalized approach to skill development to allow quality time with high level coaches.

High Level Coaching

Coaching will be facilitated by our Men's Varsity Basketball Team & Head Coach Chris O'Rourke.

Basketball Camp | Recreational Stream - All Genders, Ages 7-9

  • Facilitated by members of the Gryphon Men's Basketball coaching staff and athletes
  • Participants will be divided into groups by age and ability
  • Geared towards players who are looking for an action-packed, fun, game-based basketball camp experience
  • Fundamental skill development as well as overall game tactics will be the focus

Basketball Camp | Instructional Stream - All Genders, Ages 10-13

  • In-depth technical & tactical development for players who have some experience with the game
  • Facilitated by members of the Gryphon Men's Basketball coaching staff and athletes
  • Participants will be divided into groups by age and ability
  • Introduction to mental performance growth & goal setting

 

Both streams aim to:

  • Build fundamental basketball skills
  • Promote a fun, inclusive love of the game
  • Develop knowledge and understanding of tactical aspects of basketball
  • Include opportunities for leadership

 

Meet the Coaches


Chris O'Rourke Head Coach, University of Guelph Men's Basketball 

  • The 2021-22 season marked Chris O'Rourke's 25th season in charge of the men's basketball program at the University of Guelph
  • As the longest-tenured head coach in USPORTS men's basketball, Chris O'Rourke has served as the driving force behind some of the greatest moments in Gryphons basketball history
  • In 2003, he coached the Gryphons to the OUA West divisional title and would lead them to a silver medal at both the conference and national championships
  • During the 2005-06 season, O'Rourke became just the third Gryphon coach ever to be named OUA West Coach of the year
  • During his tenure as head coach of the Gryphons, Chris O'Rourke has had 21 players named OUA all-stars, two OUA Rookie of the Year recipients, one OUA MVP and two players named All-Canadians
  • Outside of his Gryphon coaching career, O'Rourke also has extensive experience working with the Ontario Basketball Association as well as Canada Basketball

Taylor Boers Assistant Coach, University of Guelph Men's Basketball 

  • Taylor has been Assistant Coach with the University of Guelph Men's Basketball team for the past 3 seasons, taking on the lead assistant role in 2019-20
  • During his varsity playing career at Guelph (2013-18), Taylor was chosen to the OUA All-Rookie team after leading the country in 3-point percentage
  • At the end of his 5-year career, Taylor finished top 10 in program history scoring and 4th all-time in 3 pointers made
  • Taylor continues to share his knowledge of player development and passion for coaching with his involvement in University of Guelph Basketball Camps, as well returning to his hometown of Belleville where he continues to run youth basketball programming for various age groups
