Gryphon Camps offers a variety of camps that are categorized into Activity Camps or Sport Camps. Swim 2 Survive and Home Alone/Swim 2 Survive+ sit within the Activity Camps umbrella.
Summer Camp Registration now open!
If your desired Camp week is full, please join the waitlist and we will contact you if and when an opening is available.
Each camp has a minimum and maximum age requirement to ensure campers are grouped with others within the same age range. If you have questions or concerns about age requirements, please contact the Gryphon Camps Office at camps@uoguelph.ca or 519-824-4120 Ext. 56131.
Both camp programs will have 2 staff with 18 campers (ratio of 1:9) with additional lifeguards/swim instructors for the swimming portion of the camp.
Campers will enjoy the fun and adventure from our traditional Activity Camp activities combined with daily learn to swim lessons. Each day participants will spend 90-minutes in the water in small group classes led by certified swim instructors. These instructors will lead campers through water safety skills and swim basics with the goal of attempting the Lifesaving Society's Swim 2 Survive Challenge (Roll/Tread/Swim). The Water Safety theme will be carried out through the remainder of the week through activities, games and crafts. Through creative programming, campers will have the opportunity to gain self-confidence, independence and new skills all while building new friendships.
This camp is designed for individuals at varying levels, from little to no previous swim experience. On the first day, swim instructors will determine each campers skill level in order to place them in the appropriate skill group. Throughout the week, the program will focus on the progression of each individual camper.
Swim 2 Survive Camp will have Daily 90-minute Swim Lessons.
This camp is a combination program of two lifesaving programs, Home Alone and Swim 2 Survive.
We are proud to be able to facilitate the SOS 4 Kids Home Alone Program for our Gryphon Camps Community. This workshop program is designed to provide participants with the skills & knowledge to be safe when on they are on their own at home or elsewhere for short periods of time. The following seven modules will be delivered by trained program facilitators through a mix of in-class facilitation & interactive activities throughout the camp week:
Swim 2 Survive+ provides pre-teens with practical lifesaving skills that prepare them for real life situations they may encounter when they are around water. They will practice basic physical fitness concepts as well as, learn to help a friend in deep water without putting themselves in danger. Campers must be able to float on their back comfortably (without any aid).
Home Alone/Swim 2 Survive+ will have a 90-minute daily in-water lesson.
