Gryphon Camps offers a variety of camps that are categorized into Activity Camps or Sport Camps. The Counsellor in Training Program sits within the Activity Camps umbrella.

New Minimum/Maximum Age Requirements

Each camp has a minimum and maximum age requirement to ensure campers are grouped with others within the same age range. If you have questions or concerns about age requirements, please contact the Gryphon Camps Office at camps@uoguelph.ca or 519-824-4120 Ext. 56131.

Minimum Age: Campers must be no younger than the minimum age or be turning that age by the upcoming September 1st.
Maximum Age: Campers must be no older than the maximum age by the end of the calendar year (December 31st).

Counsellor in Training Program is a small program to ensure the best training for these future counsellors. There is a maximum of 16 Counsellor-in-Training participants with our 2 Leadership Facilitators (1:8 ratio).

Counsellor in Training Program | Ages 15-17

Ideal for those not quite of age, but wish to become a counsellor soon

A four-week program designed to showcase the necessary skills that counsellors require in order to deliver successful and engaging programs in the future. Interactive workshops and experiential learning activities will be facilitated by our senior program staff and directors. CIT's will gain a better understanding of the 'camp' workstyle and Gryphon Camp Policies.

This program will prepare CIT's with the 'tools' necessary to become a great counsellor in the future as they build confidence around working with children and facilitating programs. CIT's will develop their own Gryphon activities in preparation to facilitate them within the camp community during the month-long program. As they showcase their new skills, they will be recognized for their hard work & contribution by receiving volunteer hours.

Significant Training: Each CIT will receive a well thought out and designed manual containing resources about how to become a great counsellor. The Gryphon Summer Camps Program Facilitators and Director, work together closely to create a strong support structure for everyone. Our senior camp leadership team are positive role models that will always be there to assist and encourage self-development. Counsellor In Training participants will be seen as candidates for future employment at Gryphon Summer Camps.

CIT's will also receive their HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development (PHCD) Certification while participating in the program.

Counsellor In Training Program - Four Week Program (Two Weeks of Workshops and Two Weeks Experiential) - July 3-July 17/24

Two Week Workshop Program takes place Wednesday July 3/24 till Wednesday July 17/24. Counsellors In Training will select their two week experiential component of the program, as they will be part of the counsellor team for two weeks (8am-4:30pm) and earn volunteers hours and tremendous experience for this work. Option #1: July 22-26 & July 29-Aug.2 or Option #2: Aug 12-16 & Aug 19-23. There is also a bonus opportunity of volunteering during Aug 6-9/24 Our Counsellor In Training program is designed to showcase the skills that counsellors require to deliver successful and engaging programs. Throughout our program, CIT's will learn the skills necessary for them to become a successful counsellor in the future. Our workshops will be delivered through interactive workshops and experiential learning activities delivered by our senior program facilitators and directors. This training program will allow individuals to gain a better understanding of the 'camp' workstyle. All CIT's will earn their High Five Principles of Healthy Child Development certification as part of this program.
