Rec Skating & Hockey


Rec Skate & Hockey currently not available due to Provincial Restrictions. 

Prior to Aug 3/21 all recreation must be reserved in advance.   After reviewing below Policies & Protocols, please proceed to reserve your time slot @

  • Recreation available to U of G Students & Athletics Members.  Non-Members must purchase an Athletics Base Membership prior to purchasing the NRG Pass.  Not a member yet? Purchase your Base Membership now.    Faculty/Staff/Retirees can purchase the Subsidized Base Membership here.  You are an Athletics Member if you are currently registered as a full or part-time undergraduate or a full-time graduate student of the University of Guelph (Athletics Base Membership paid within your academic fees) or if you have purchased an Athletics Base Membership.

Rec Skating

All time slots must be reserved in advance


 Rec Skate is open to skaters of all ability levels, lace up & skate along to some great music.


Enforced Booking Policies

  • Prior to Aug 3/21 all time slots must be reserved in advance for the purpose of contact tracing.
  • Bookings can only be made for yourself (not applicable to Guardians) – booking for others is NOT Permitted.
  • Max one (1) time slot per day for Rec Swims, NRG Fitness classes, Fitness Centre.
  • No back to back bookings permitted in the same building.
  • Bookings available to reserve 7 days in advance, on the hour (means you don’t have to wake up at midnight to make your booking).
  • Time slots will be available to reserve up until 1 hour before the desired start time.
  • Prior to Aug 3/21 all members must have a booking to access our building and/or any of our spaces. 
  • Clients should cancel reservations on their own and can do so without penalty up to 1 hour before the booked time.
  • Reservations can be managed through the app, your email confirmation or by calling Client Services (519 824 4120 Ext. 56253).
  • Non-members will be denied access to reserved time slots.
  • All Clients must check in when they arrive prior to any booking.
  • Clients who register for a time and continuously do not show will have their memberships temporarily suspended.


Rec Skate Protocols

  • Everyone is required to complete the U of G COVID-19 Screening Form prior to every visit using the QR code or by visiting > or access to the facility will be denied
  • If you experience any symptoms on the screening form or do not feel well, please stay home
  • Everyone must check-in with Rink Attendant upon arrival
  • Everyone must obey physical distancing guidelines while in the facility
  • Face coverings must be worn while in the facility
  • Face coverings may only be removed during physical activity, but must be worn by players on the bench
  • Users should arrive no earlier than 15 minutes before & no later than 10 minutes after their booked time. Rink doors will be locked at this time – No late entries
  • Socially distanced benches will be available for users to change in and out of skates
  • Face coverings must be worn up until users step onto the ice surface and then placed back on when stepping off the ice surface
  • Open to skaters of all ability levels
  • Use of proper Learn to Skate Aids/Stabilizers/Walkers are permitted
  • Sticks, pucks, strollers, chairs, etc. not permitted
  • CSA approved hockey helmets are strongly recommended for all participants on the ice
  • CSA approved hockey helmets are MANDATORY for children 7yrs & younger
  • All children under the age of 14 must be supervised by Parent/Guardian at all times
  • Excessive speed, dangerous skating or games not permitted
  • Users must recognize and accept the risks inherent in this activity
  • Users are responsible for their own personal health and safety
  • Users must recognize and respect the participation of others and obey directions from Department of Athletics staff
  • Users must respect the safety of attendants - no one is permitted on the ice surface until the Zamboni gate is fully closed
  • Sunflower seeds, tobacco or smokeless tobacco products are not permitted in dressing rooms or facility
  • Report any unusual, suspicious or inappropriate behavior to Facility Staff

Equipment Rental

A selection of equipment is available for loan to U of G Students/Athletics Members during Recreation times. Fees may apply for some items, visit Equipment Lending for details.

You are an Athletics Member if you are a registered full or part-time undergraduate or a full-time graduate student of the University of Guelph (Athletics Base Membership paid within your academic fees) or have purchased an Athletics Base Membership.

Facility Guidelines

Athletics is committed to providing a safe, inviting recreation experience for the University of Guelph community. Please assist us by adhering to the following guidelines.

  1. Individuals must be 12 years or older to participate in NRG Classes and 16 years or older to use the Fitness Centre.
  2. Persons 15 years of age and under participating in Recreation activities must be accompanied by a paying parent or guardian at all times.
  3. Athletic clothing appropriate to the activity must be worn.
  4. Clean athletic footwear with non-marking soles must be worn on all surfaces.
  5. Programming space is to be shared appropriately with all participants.
  6. Food or glass bottles are not permitted in the gymnasiums or program rooms.
  7. Inappropriate behavior such as swearing, physical or verbal abuse will not be tolerated and may result in loss of building access privileges and/or immediate removal from facility.
  8. All programming ends 30 minutes prior to the building closing. All equipment must be returned at this time.
  9. Change rooms will be inspected by a Client Services Representative upon building closure.
  10. Failure to follow these guidelines may result in removal from facility and/or loss of access privileges.
