Kids Swim Lessons

We offer a range of Kids Swim Lessons including Private, Semi-Private and group lessons.  We have switched our Learn to Swim provider from The Canadian Red Cross to The Lifesaving Society.  Same lesson formats available.  See Conversion Chart below for new level names.

Below Activities require registration & fees apply.  Recreation Membership is not a pre-requisite to enroll in Kids Programming.


Private Swim Lessons

This course is designed as a 1:1 swim lesson for individuals ages 3 years & up of all levels. Swimmers will have the opportunity to progress through The Lifesaving Society Swim for Life program. Specialized teaching will be based upon a swim assessment during the first class.

Family Swim Lessons

This program is designed for the whole family to learn together in the water. Parent(s) will assist younger swimmers with swimming skills & drills under the direction & supervision of their dedicated instructor. Each family member will be able to work on their own swim techniques all while having fun together. Families must have a minimum of 1 parent/guardian in the water at all times to assist with instruction & safety supervision. Each registration can be a minimum of 2 swimmers, up to 4 swimmers. Designed for 3-year-olds & up.

Winter Family Swim Lesson 

Parent & Tot 1 | Ages 4-12 months

Through structured in-water interaction between parent & child, we stress the importance of play in developing water positive attitudes & skills. We provide Lifesaving Society Water Smart® tips on keeping your child safe in any aquatic setting. Families will learn holds and encourage front floats, back floats & how to wear a PFD. Designed for the 4 to 12-month-old learning to enjoy the water with the parent.

Parent & Tot 2 & 3 | Ages 13 months - 4 years

Designed for the 13-month-old to 4 years old learning to enjoy the water with the parent.

Preschool 1 | Ages 4-6

Parents are welcome to participate with their child for the first three classes. These preschoolers will have fun learning to get in & out of the water. We’ll help them jump into chest deep water. They’ll float & glide on their front & back, learn to get their faces wet & blow bubbles underwater. Designed for 4 to 6-year-olds.

Preschool 2 & 3 | Ages 5-6

These preschoolers learn to jump into chest-deep water by themselves then get in & out while wearing a lifejacket. They’ll submerge & exhale underwater as they recover objects from the bottom of waist-deep water. They will work on kicking & gliding through the water on their front & back. Designed for 5 to 6-year-olds.

Preschool 4 & 5 | Ages 5-6

Advanced preschoolers will learn to do solo jumps into deeper water & get out by themselves. They will master a short swim on their front wearing a lifejacket as well as gliding & kicking on their side. As they progress, they will work on front & back crawl swims for 5m. Designed for 5 to 6-year-olds.

Ranger Patrol/Swimmer Level 8 | Ages 7 & up

Swimmers develop better strokes over 75m swims of each stroke. They tackle lifesaving sport skills in a lifesaving medley, timed object support & rescue with a buoyant aid. First aid focuses on assessment of unconscious victims, treatment of victims in shock & obstructed airway procedures. Skill drills develop a strong lifesaving foundation.

Rookie Patrol/Swimmer Level 7 | Ages 7 & up

Swimmers continue stroke development with 50m swims of front crawl, back crawl & breaststroke. Lifesaving sport skills include a 25m obstacle swim with 15m object carry. First aid focuses on assessment of conscious victims, contacting EMS & treatment for bleeding. Fitness improves in 350m workouts & 100m timed swims.

Star Patrol/Swimmer Level 9 | Ages 7 & up

Swimmers are challenged with 600m workouts, 300m timed swims & a 25m object carry. Strokes are refined over 100m swims. First aid focuses on treatment of bone or joint injuries & respiratory emergencies including asthma & allergic reactions. Lifesaving skills include defense methods, victim removals as well as rolling over while supporting a victim face up in shallow water.

Rookie/Ranger/Star Patrol

Swimmers 7 years & older will continue stroke development and work on lifesaving sport skills within Lifesaving Society Rookie Patrol, Ranger Patrol or Star Patrol lessons.

Pool Facility Guidelines

  • Children 7 years of age or older are required to use the change room designated for their gender
  • Universal/Non-Gender change rooms available for families and individuals looking for a non-gender specific space
  • Please refrain from entering the pools until a lifeguard is on duty
  • Swimmers will not be permitted on the pool deck until 5 minutes prior to their scheduled swim time
  • Street shoes are not permitted on the deck
  • Children 15 years of age and under are not permitted in the Hot Tub unless accompanied by an adult
