Stop Motion Animation Camp Ages 9-12 | Movie Making Camp Ages 9-12

Gryphon Camps offers a variety of camps that are categorized into Activity Camps or Sport Camps. Both Stop Motion Animation (Lego/clay) and Movie Making Camp sit within the Activity Camps umbrella.

New Minimum/Maximum Age Requirements

Each camp has a minimum and maximum age requirement to ensure campers are grouped with others within the same age range.  If you have questions or concerns about age requirements, please contact the Gryphon Camps Office at camps@uoguelph.ca or 519-824-4120 Ext. 56131.

  • Minimum Age: Campers must be no younger than the minimum age or be turning that age by the upcoming September 1st. 
  • Maximum Age: Campers must be no older than the maximum age by the end of the calendar year (December 31st).  

Both of these camps will have 2 staff with 18 campers (ratio of 1:9) with an additional instructor from Film Camp In A Box to assist with the creation of their films.

Lego/Clay Animation & Film Making

Professional equipment under the guidance of a master filmmaker from Film Camp in a Box

Stop Motion Animation & Movie Making Camp | Ages 9-12

Both Camps include:

  • Learn camera angles through digital media literacy skill development
  • Engage with digital equipment for meaningful outcomes
  • STEAM engagement using math, arts, technology & engineering
  • Oral/Visual communication skill development
  • Collaboration & social engagement
  • Critical & abstract thinking

Stop Motion Animation (Lego/Clay) Camp - Ages 9-12

Campers will bring Lego, action figures, toys, or clay to life this summer as they are led by a master filmmaker from 'Film Camp In A Box'.  Half of the day will be dedicated to using specific film equipment under the guidance of a master filmmaker, while the other half will be facilitated by Gryphon Counsellors for games, crafts & outdoor activities.   Each camper will learn to storyboard, develop a script, create characters, create camera angles, edit, design a set and add special effects, music and titles. The result will be a creation of a stop motion blockbuster film that we will watch together as a group. There is no recreational swimming as part of this camp.

Program Outcomes:

  • Learn & practice the digital story telling process by writing a storyboard
  • Develop a Script & create Characters
  • Design a Set with special effects, music & titles

 Equipment available while at camp: 

  • MacBook Air loaded with instructional stop motion movie content
  • HD Stop Motion Camera
  • Set Arts supplies  

Movie Making Camp | Ages 9-12

Action, adventure, comedy and suspense await in this Film Making Camp. Using specific equipment under the guidance of a master filmmaker from 'Film Camp in a Box', half of the day young filmmakers will work in small crews to develop a script, create camera angles, add & edit special effects, music and titles.  The final result.....a blockbuster to enjoy on the big screen with family and friends.  The other half of the day will be led by Gryphon Camp Counsellors for games, crafts & outdoor activities.  There is no recreational swimming as part of this camp.

  • Hands on exploration of entire film making process
  • Pre & Post Production
  • Create a short film with a trailer

Movie Making Camp - July 15-19/24

Action, adventure, comedy and suspense await in this Film Making Camp. Using specific equipment under the guidance of a master filmmaker from 'Film Camp in a Box', half of the day young filmmakers will work in small crews to develop a script, create camera angles, add & edit special effects, music and titles. The final result.....a blockbuster to enjoy on the big screen with family and friends. The other half of the day will be led by Gryphon Camp Counsellors for games, crafts & outdoor activities. In addition to this specific program, campers will participate in Activity Camp theme programming. Theme: Blast from the Past Let’s take our Gryphon travel machine to take us back in time. Each camp will take their time (travel) machines to participate in different time periods and decades. This fun week will take us back and explore before it was 2024!
