The life of a student-athlete can be chaotic at the best of times. The commitment to play a club sport and maintain an academic standard leaves little time for much else. The Adopt-A-Gryphon program, which began in the mid 2000’s, is changing the way University of Guelph athletes garner financial support from their family, friends and community.
Adopt-A-Gryphon has made the fundraising process much more simple. Each club team has its own link (below). Athletes can solicit support, the potential donors receive an electronic letter, and they can then go directly to the club page they hope to contribute to. Funds raised go to specific needs for that team, be it equipment or additional travel expenses that go beyond the regular budget.
The University of Guelph’s Adopt-A-Gryphon program was at the forefront of the online movement to offer a more sleek and efficient way to raise money. It’s been beneficial on many fronts, and specifically enables Gryphon athletes the opportunity to take ownership for the well-being of their particular club.
