Gryphon Aquatic Centre Rules and Regulations

ADMISSION STANDARDS:

  1. Children 5 years of age and under must be directly supervised (within arm's reach), regardless of swimming ability, by a guardian 14 years of age or older. Maximum of 2 children per guardian.
  2. Children 6-9 years of age, who cannot swim 2 uninterrupted widths of the Red Pool, must be supervised by a guardian 14 years of age or older. Guardian must be present at the time of the swim test. Maximum of 4 children per guardian.
  3. The ratio of guardians to swimmers 6-9 years of age, who cannot complete the facility swim test, may be increased to a maximum of 8 bathers to one guardian if approved personal flotation devices are worn by all non swimmers in their care.
  4. Those with serious medical conditions should be accompanied by an individual knowledgeable of their condition and responsible for their direct supervision.

DIVING BOARD RULES:

  1. No running on the board.
  2. Only one person on the board at a time.
  3. Avoid long and deep dives.
  4. Dive forward off the board and no inverted dives.
  5. One bounce only.
  6. Ensure that the area under the board is clear before diving.

LANE SWIM ETIQUETTE:

  1. Centre lanes are for faster, continuous swimming.
  2. Please circle swim unless agreed upon with lane-mates to swim side by side.
  3. Slower, lap swimming on each side of fast lanes.
  4. Outer lanes for slow/beginner swimmers, and water workouts.

Rules & Regulations for GRYPHON AQUATIC CENTRE Facility Use, violation of any of the below listed Rules & Regulations may result in loss of facility access privileges and/or immediate removal from facility.

  1. NO ANIMALS are allowed. All animals must remain outside of the facility. Service dogs accepted.
  2. Plastic Water Bottles containing WATER ONLY are allowed inside of the facility. Absolutely NO glass containers. Water Refilling stations are available inside the facility.
  3. NO FOOD products are allowed inside of the facility; including GUM, and all SEED or NUT products.
  4. Absolutely NO outdoor footwear is allowed onto the pool deck. Clean athletic footwear with non-marking soles must be worn on all other surfaces.
  5. Absolutely NO ALCOHOL or TOBACCO products are allowed inside any of our facilities. U of G is proud to be a tobacco- and smoke-free environment. Smoking, vaping and the use of smokeless tobacco is not permitted on campus. www.uoguelph.ca/smokefree.
  6. Bicycles, Skateboards or Motorized vehicles are NOT allowed inside of the facility.
  7. Fireworks or other Explosive devices are NOT permitted.
  8. NO LOITERING, please be respectful of others who will be accessing the facility immediately upon your rental completion.
  9. Programming space is to be shared appropriately with all participants.
  10. Athletic clothing appropriate to the activity must be worn.
  11. Inappropriate behaviour such as swearing, physical or verbal abuse will not be tolerated and may result in loss of building access privileges and/or immediate removal from facility.
  12. Persons 15 years of age and under must be supervised by an adult at all times.
  13. All programming ends 30 minutes prior to the building closing. All equipment must be returned at this time.
  14. Change rooms will be inspected by an Athletics Staff Representative throughout the day and upon building closure.
  15. Use of scoreboard and timing systems must be arranged at time of rental booking in order to ensure use for your event or rental.
  16. DO NOT leave any valuables unattended, the University of Guelph is NOT responsible for lost or stolen items.
  17. Persons 15 years of age and under must be supervised by an adult at all times and are not permitted in the Steam Room or Hot Tub unless accompanied by an adult.
  18. All participants are required to shower before using the pools.
  19. Children 7 years of age or older are required to use the change room designated for their gender. If this is not suitable, see facility staff to arrange appropriate accommodations.
  20. No one may be on the pool deck until a lifeguard is on duty.
