Learn and Practice

All participants will learn the skills for each event through classroom instruction on the pool deck. After learning on the deck, they will have the opportunity to practice in the pool. During these times in the pool, participants will be under the watchful eyes of our coaches who will assist them in the techniques needed for success.

New Skills

Participants in Competitive Lifesaving will learn new skills that are specific to competitive lifesaving events. They will have the opportunity to practice them all week with their fellow participants to develop their abilities. Then on the last day, we will bring it all together for a mini competitive lifesaving event.

Skilled Coaches

Our coaches for this program include the Varsity Swimming Coach and trained facilitators who have previous experience participating in these events and coaching.  Campers will have the opportunity to learn from individuals that are passionate about the sport and supportive of each individual's growth.

Skill Development

Participants will be taught skills in little components so it is easier and better understood by them on how it goes all together. This technique of teaching will allow success, safety and clarity for each swimmer. Skills are focused and taught in a fun and engaging way that excites all of the swimmers to learn these techniques.

Endurance

Swimmers will have fun with the weighted swim. This activity assist swimmers as they strengthen their swimming abilities and how the weight would feel (if it was a real person). Through this teaching, participants really have a better understanding of what it means to be a lifeguard and assist those that need assistance in a swimming pool.

Mini Competition

Competitive Lifesaving Camp closes with a Mini Competition for the swimmers. They will get to bring all of their skills together and see how they all connect in this fun, yet competitive, final day.  Swimmers will see how the dedication of their work over the week brings them to success on the final day.  It's great to see all of the skills come together for these participants.

Competitive Lifesaving is a fun combination of swimming/ lifesaving and other skills. Camp will cover all the pool lifesaving events as well as some open water concepts and events adapted for the weather and facilities. Previous competitive experience is not necessary, however level 7 or above Red Cross or equivalent is strongly suggested. Swimmers will be placed in groups based on their ability and progress accordingly.

Competitive Lifesaving involves strength, endurance, rhythm, coordination and tenacity. It’s the only sport that could save a life someday.

Professional Coaching will include coaches of the Guelph Marlins and Guelph Gryphons coaching staff as well as athletes from both organizations.

The program activities will be facilitated by our trained counsellors and coaches at a 1:9 ratio for the week. The camp day will be from 9am-4pm (with free supervision activities occurring between 8am-9am and 4pm-5pm). We also offer extended program supervision from 5pm-6pm at an additional fee.
