COVID-19 Update Jan 4, 2022 - Gryphon Athletics

January 4, 2022  COVID-19 Gryphon Athletics Closures, Cancellations, Credits and Refunds

The University of Guelph, Department of Athletics will be closed effective end of today Tuesday, January 4, 2022, as the Province of Ontario is temporarily moving to a modified Step 2 of the Roadmap to Reopen. Effective 12:01 am on Wednesday, January 5 for at least 21 days (until January 26, 2022) all indoor sport and recreational fitness facilities, including gyms, will be closed. Following government directives, all registered programs, fitness memberships and facility rentals will be cancelled until further notice.

Over the next few weeks, the Province of Ontario will monitor and evaluate trends in public health and health system indicators to determine if it is safe to lift any restrictions or if they need to be extended.

The information below provides you with details regarding credits and refunds for cancelled rentals, programs, and memberships. Please note this information is subject to change as the situation evolves.

Registered Programs

  • You do not need to withdraw or cancel your registration. We are working to re-schedule the affected dates. If there are specific instances where individual sessions cannot be rescheduled, you will automatically receive a refund for the classes we have to cancel. The credit card number on your file will be refunded and if we do not have a credit card number on file, you will receive a credit on your account.
  • For more information about recreation program credits and refunds please email reghelp@uoguelph.ca. Also, please check your email regarding any date or class changes.
    Program registration for Spring 2022 is not available at this time.

NRG (Fitness Centre & Fitness Classes) & Locker Memberships

  • U of G students: NRG Memberships and Locker Memberships for Winter 2022 are not available for purchase until further notice. Students that already purchased a Winter 2022 NRG membership and/or locker membership will receive a coupon credit on their account for the period of the closure. This will be calculated once the Province of Ontario announces the re-opening date. This coupon credit amount can be used toward new memberships and programs. For questions regarding memberships, please contact client services at reghelp@uoguelph.ca
  • Other members: We have suspended pre-authorized membership payments. Once our fitness centre re-opens and fitness classes resume, pre-authorized payment plans will resume, and membership end dates extended. You will not be charged for the time we are closed due to COVID-19 restrictions.
  • Locker members may wish to collect personal belongings before closing on Tuesday, January 4.

Facility Rentals

  • All rentals for pools, sports fields, arena, courts, and meeting rooms etc. have been cancelled. You will get an updated permit to reflect these cancellations. At this time, you will not be able to reschedule cancelled dates. All permits as of January 26, 2022, will remain in the system as is. If you would like the additional time you can request this, but please note, that no additional permitted time will be confirmed until we have a confirmed re-open date from the Province of Ontario.
  • If you have a credit card number on file you will automatically receive a refund for the cancelled rental. If there is no credit card number on file, you will receive a credit on your account that you can use to pay for future rentals. For more information on your facility booking rental, please contact us by email at facility@uoguelph.ca.

UGAA Lounge – Study Space

  • The UGAA Lounge, study space and Booster Juice is closed until further notice.   

Clubs

  • All Gryphon Club teams have been notified by the Club Supervisor about club programming.

Intramurals

  • Intramurals will start the week of Jan. 31, 2022 with last-minute registration happening the week of Jan. 24, 2022
  • Stay tuned for e-sport tournaments in January   

Registered Programming (learn to skate, dance, martial arts)

  • All registered instructional programming will start the week of Jan. 31, 2022

Active Kids (swim lessons, learn to skate, climbing)

  • These programs will start as scheduled in January.
  • No in-person birthday party bookings will be permitted until further notice. 
  • Contact us for information on virtual programming opportunities, including birthday parties and team building.

Intercollegiate Sport

  • The OUA winter sport season has been paused after a decision made by the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) on December 17th, 2021.
