Gryphon Athletics Announces Annual ARC Part Time Staff Awards
Tuesday, March 31, 2020 (GUELPH, Ont.) - The University of Guelph, Department of Athletics announced their employee awards today online. In recent years, the ARC award banquet has become a bright spot on the annual calendar celebrating the hard work and dedication of all 675 part-time staff that contribute to the success of the Department of Athletics. Unfortunately this year, due to concerns about COVID-19 and with the goal of increasing social distancing, the ARC awards banquet was canceled and the awards were instead announced online.
The Directors Award was given to Quincy Sickles-Jarvis from both the Camps and Client Services unit. This award is given to the part time employee who exemplifies the true nature of the department of Athletics. This person is an individual who conducts themselves as an ambassador of the Athletics Department at all times. Quincy has been an instrumental staff member of the Active Kids and Camps Department for the past three years. She has taken on and excelled in a number of leadership roles with a variety of programs. No matter the role Quincy could be counted on to create an atmosphere that is representative of what it means to be a Gryphon, providing the feeling of safety and support to all participants. In both Client Services and Camps she ensures that through her leadership by example philosophy, that other staff would follow her lead and develop an environment that participants look forward to coming to. Her leadership is one that makes her stand out from the crowd and creates connections with everyone she works with.
The Service and Dedication award was given to Sarah Welch from Camps and the Facilities units. This award is presented annually to an individual who puts service first in their daily job and understands the importance of excellent customer service. Sarah has worked for camps and facilities for the past three years and is a former Cross Country and Track and Field athlete. She is described by her supervisors as someone who continuously goes above and beyond to make sure our guests, campers, and parents have a positive Gryphon experience. She has affected many individuals positively through her work ethic and passion for the programs. Sarah is a phenomenal staff member and co-worker who shows up to work early, prepared and focused on the tasks at hand for the day. Without a doubt she has played an important role in many of the Gryphon campers lives, and continues to strive to take our Gryphon programs to new levels with innovative ideas. She creates an atmosphere that campers and staff feel welcomed and supported.
The Matrix Fitness – Student Leadership Award is presented to the part time employee who is a current full time post-secondary undergraduate student and acts as a role model for their peers. This person is a leader within the department of athletics. The winner receives $1,000 from Matrix for winning. The winner of the 2019-20 Matrix Fitness Award is Nickolas Perry. Nick currently works with Joint Health and Safety where on a monthly basis he collaborates with other Athletics department members to ensure the facilities are operating in their safest capacities. He also has worked for facilities, intramurals and sits on the Athletics Advisory Committee. Overall Nick continues to strive as an Athletics student employee, and is continuously striving to give back more.
