Meet The Coach

Chantique Carey-Payne Head Coach of the Guelph Gryphons Swim Team

Chantique Carey-Payne was named the head coach of the Gryphons varsity swimming program in June of 2017. Prior to being named head coach, Chantique spent two seasons serving as an assistant coach with the U of G swim teams.

As a swimmer, Carey-Payne was a four-year OUA All-Star during her time at the University of Guelph, and earned an impressive total of 11 OUA medals, and 8 CIS medals. She is a seven-time OUA Gold medalist and in 2009-10 swam to a national title and First Team All-Canadian status in the 50m Butterfly.  She also earned two bronze medals at the 2012 Summer Canadian Championships.

After swimming, Chantique turned her attention to coaching, and started as a full-time assistant coach with the Gryphons program during the 2015-16 season. In the last two years she has focused on growing her coaching career, learning all facets of the program but specifically taking a lead on the dryland planning and implementation.  She has also earned invaluable experience as the National Team Coach for the Canadian Lifesaving team in the past.

Chantique Carey-Payne has also been coaching with the local Guelph Marlins Swim club for the past six years, sharing her knowledge of swimming and competitive lifesaving.
