Kids Skill Development

SeaTurtle, Otter, Salamander | Ages 3-5

This program is designed for preschool aged children attending lessons for the first time without a parent/caregiver in the water. With a smoother transition from one level to the next, swimmers learn to float on both front and back, glide and kick, don a PFD and jump into chest deep water. Participants will attempt to swim up to 2m. Games and songs enhance the fun of the class.

Can swim front and back crawl at least 15m, perform the whip kick on back at least 5m, perform kneeling dive and swim 50m continuously.

Participants will work with the instructor on deep-water activities, breathe rhythmically, glides front/back with kick for 5m and swim 10m continuously. An introduction to front crawl and back swim with shoulder roll. Deep-water activities such as kneeling dives and surface support are practiced with emphasis on achieving endurance through a strong flutter kick towards 15m completion.

Sunfish, Crocodile, Whale | Ages 3-5

This program for preschool aged children will guide swimmers to complete both front and back swims independently. They will explore deep water with an aid, perform a dolphin kick and begin using rhythmic breathing. Participants will attempt to swim up to 10m.

Ballet Beginner | Ages 4-6

A fun introductory class for children with no dance background. The focus will be on fun and children will enjoy learning the basic elements of ballet technique, including the position of arms, feet and body alignment. Participants should wear comfortable clothing, barefeet or ballet shoes are appropriate.

Starfish, Duck | Ages 4 months - 5 yrs

Starfish - 4 to 18 months of age or older, and able to hold their head up. The goals are to help babies experience buoyancy and movement through songs & play in water and to teach the parent/caregiver age-specific water safety. Duck - 18 months of age or older. Participants will perform front, back, and vertical position floats with assistance, as well as, learn how to choose and wear an appropriate Personal Floatation Device (PFD).

Swim Kids 1 | Ages 5-13

Participants will learn to enter shallow water safely; float and glide on the front and back without assistance, move around in a PFD, perform rhythmic breathing 3 times. Jump into chest deep water, do front and back floats and recover and swim on front for 2m.

Beginners Learn to Skate | Ages 4-6

These small group lessons are designed for children with little, to no skating experience. Children will be grouped based on their skating level, therefore attendance at the first lesson is very important. Through fun games and activities, qualified instructors will facilitate instruction in order to build your child’s skating confidence. We recommend that participants practice between classes. Safety pads are recommended, and CSA approved hockey helmets are mandatory. *Registration ends the Friday prior to the start date.

Bronze Star | Ages 11-14

Bronze Star provides training for your body and your brain. You will become a stronger swimmer. You will learn CPR and practice problem-solving and decision making. This course is designed for the strong swimmer who does not yet meet the minimum age for Bronze Medallion. If you hold a Bronze Star you can take Bronze Medallion regardless of your age.

Learn Rock Climbing | Ages 7-14

Rock Climbing offers a unique environment for children to explore and become more aware of how their bodies move on the rock wall as they progress through bouldering, harnessing, belaying, and then conquering top rope climbing. They will be inspired to set goals and develop teamwork skills as they learn proper safety & rock-climbing techniques. Participants will be grouped according to their climbing exposure and the program will culminate with a ‘friendly’ finale challenge to put new skills to the test. All equipment is provided.

Junior Climbing Club | Ages 9-16

Do you have previous experience with rock climbing? If so, the Junior Climbing Club is the perfect place to climb with other "like minded" individuals. While Climbing coaches teach techniques, climbers will work at their own pace and begin to perfect their climbing skills. In a relaxed environment, fun competitions will strengthen abilities and further grow an individuals’ love for the sport. All equipment is provided.

Bouldering Climbing Club | Ages 6-8

Looking to get some exercise & try something new? The Bouldering Club is a great place for beginners to get use to the rock-climbing environment, only climbing at lower heights that do not require harnesses. Participants will learn climbing techniques and movements, all while having fun. With the focus on bouldering, climbers will build self-confidence as they begin to understand ‘rock holds’. All equipment is provided.

Wrestling High School Performance | Ages 12-18

Take your wrestling skills to the next level with this competitive program designed for individuals with previous exposure to the sport of wrestling. Focus will be placed on advancing techniques while training with varsity athletes and building leadership skills. If new to the sport, please contact the Program Coordinator. Certified coaches share their knowledge gained from past provincial & national championship experiences. This program also includes the athletes’ membership to the Ontario Amateur Wrestling Association for insurance coverage, a clothing package and use of the university wrestling room for the times assigned. This program runs from October to May, please refer to your confirmation for dates classes will not run. Times of the program are subject to change at coaches’ discretion.

Family Camp (Max 2 Adults/3 Kids Ages 4-12)

Looking to do something as a family? Join our Family Camp, where you will be able to participate in fun camp activities (sports, games and crafts) together, all while meeting other families in the area. All activities will be facilitated and led by Camp Counsellors. This 8-week program will feature exciting new themes and activities. Intro to Waterpolo | Ages 8-14

Participants will attend a 1.5 hour coed pool session once a week. Classes consist of developing skills such as game basics, shooting, passing, and moving with the ball. Team play with safe physical maneuvering and contact are also included. Mini games will be organized by the coaches.

Dance Fusion | Ages 4-6

Modeled after our Discover Dance Camp, this class will give children exposure to a variety of styles of dance from ballet, to contemporary to hip hop!
