Mon July 9 - Fri July 13, 2018 | 9am-4pm

Mini Gryphs is an all-new program specifically designed for young children ages 3-5 who are new to camp. This camp will focus on the important elements of social, physical and educational development. The play-based program will provide the opportunity for children to develop socialization, fine and gross motor skills that will prepare them for a summer camp environment. The goal of the program is to help children transition into Junior Activity Camp later in the summer or sometime in the future. We are excited to grow great Gryphons! This program will provide a great opportunity for children to transition to camp by offering small ratios of 1:5 and will focus on building attachments between instructors and campers. Several instructors in this program will have a background in Child, Youth Family Studies or are Early Childhood Educators. Please note this program is designed for children who prefer smaller groups and require more individual attention. Please note that we do not offer a 1:1 ratio. For more information on how to acquire a 1:1 worker while your child is in camp, please contact camps@uoguelph.ca Please note that there is no daily swim as part of this program. Campers will be introduced to the pool environment to observe other camps during their swims.

Junior Activity Camp offers children a unique camp experience housed at the Gryphon Field House on the beautiful University of Guelph campus. The camp will emphasize fun in a safe and friendly environment, combining educational activities with recreational indoor and outdoor sports and games, all at an age appropriate level. Each day, campers will have one recreational swim. Junior Activity Campers will also participate in arts and crafts and cooperative games. A different theme is chosen for each week, including a special guest or a special on-campus event. Each Friday, children will have the opportunity to dress-up according to that week's theme and participate in a fun filled afternoon. If this is your child's first time at camp, please check out the Gryphon Camp Experience page of the Gryph Guide which will help everyone know what to expect and help prepare you & your child for the first day of camp.

Camp Staff

Our instructors are primarily University/College students, graduates, and varsity athletes. Some camp staff are older High School students who work closely with our senior staff. All successful applicants have been thoroughly interviewed, and many have been a part of our team for several summers. All Gryphon Camp staff participate in extensive training, are certified in CPR/Emergency First Aid, and have Police Records Checks. We also offer the opportunity for High School students to fulfill community service volunteer hours (participants must be a minimum of 15 years old).

Your Child's Safety

All Gryphon Activity Camp Instructors are certified in Emergency First Aid and CPR to ensure a top quality, and most importantly, a safe camp experience for your child. During all of our training sessions, emergency procedures are reviewed thoroughly. Additional topics discussed include: custody arrangements, child abuse, behaviour modification, weather conditions and self-esteem. While using the swimming pool, certified lifeguards are present at all times as well as the camp instructors. Children take part in a swimming test at the beginning of the first swimming session. If your child is not a strong enough swimmer, they will wear a Personal Floatation Device at all times. Safety is our first concern. Campers are required to bring their own sunscreen and hat (younger children will be assisted with sunscreen).

Sign-in/Sign-out Procedures

Our procedures are intended to keep your child safe. You will be asked to sign your child in with a Gryphon Camp Instructor each morning. At the end of the day, you will be asked to sign your child out with an instructor. You will be required to show photo I.D. at sign out. At the parents discretion, you can waive this requirement during your registration process. All sign-in/out locations are indicated on the camp pages. If on any day your child is unable to attend camp, you must contact us at 519-824-4120, ext. 56131 (please use this phone number and extension only).

Lunch and Snacks

Each child will be expected to provide their own lunch, two healthy snacks and should bring plenty to drink. Please avoid nut products.

Nut Products

All of our camps are nut free camps. Please help us keep the camp as nut-free as possible by choosing lunch and snack products that do not contain nuts. During weeks when a camper with a known allergy is identified to our staff, additional notification will be provided.
